Growth is the Beam On’s goal over the next 2 years. Beam On’s growth is expected to come from the planned expansion to India with growth in the North American market slowing. With growth in India expected to be consistent yet explosive, Beam On will tackle the following problems:
- Capacity
Luckily, expanding capacity at Beam On is a relatively simple process. There is no requirement for building significant infrastructure in the new market and in some terms, it can be simplified in terms of flipping a switch. While this is a admittedly an over simplification, it does appear to be that easy compared to land based broadband providers who are looking to break into a new international market.
Beam On plans to expand capacity and global coverage in order to serve the India market by launching an additional 1,200 satellites. Beam On’s current coverage allows for 100% uninterrupted highspeed coverage to North American markets with approximately 80% uninterrupted coverage to the market in India for expected customers upon launch. Additional satellites will allow Beam On to reach the 100% mark for India by the time user numbers reach 20% of projected total market share in July 2020.

Beam On will need to lease physical space in India in order to maintain a strong customer relations and marketing team onsite to meet project demands. Beyond the in-country teams, Beam On will require only limited home office growth in the United States as their model was constructed with ease of scalability in mind.
- Customer Demand & Length of Projected Demand
Customer demand for highspeed internet is expected to increase in the target market over the next decade. Beam On expects customer demand to increase as internet user in India experienced a growth of 61 million individuals from 2018 to 2019 (The Economic Times, 2019). With 627 million total internet users, Beam On’s customer demand in India in undeniable, especially in areas where Beam On may be the only service provider able to offer consistent service.

Beam On projects customer demand for their core product offerings to last through January 2024 based on achieving 2% market share with reasonable growth from a March 2020 launch through a 90% projected customer size acquisition.
- Competitor Actions
Beam On expects competitors to ramp up their customer acquisition efforts as well. Beam On’s main competitor is SpaceX’s Starlink program. SpaceX’s Starlink program is a similar service that offers high speed internet to any location in the world through the use of satellites (Wall, 2019). SpaceX’s plans to launch upwards of 1,200 satellites to offer quality coverage with plans to launch 12,000 over the lifetime of the product offerings (Wall, 2019). SpaceX poses a significant threat to Beam On’s business as they offer a similar product with the added marketing boost of having a well-known public figure backing the program with Elon Musk being a major player in the SpaceX organization.
- Threats and Risk
Beam On’s major threats and risk for failing to meet customer demand is the ability for consumers to choose a competitor fairly quickly after Beam On’s launch. Once launched and pushing for additional market share, Beam On will experience extreme competition from SpaceX. If Beam On is able to meet customer needs and developed a superior level of customer value prior to SpaceX entering the India market, then Beam on will remain successful and should hit their customer acquisition projections. However, if the launch is slower than anticipated or if service is not as promised, then Beam On may experience significant loss in the India market and may have to quickly pivot to other developing markets.
